On a cold day out at Highfields we took on the competition leaders. It was a tough match with plenty of ups and downs. At times we defended well and other times it was poor. Something that we will be working very hard at this week coming at training.
We were up 18-6 at half time and looked in control even though we really hadn’t played our best footy. However, the 2nd half saw Highfields really lift the tempo. They had the momentum and put on a few tries in the first 15 min. With 8 mins to go the score was 26 all. Unfortunately, we let the pressure get to us. A missed kick at goal from nearly in front, a mistake from the kick off and then two penalties defending our line resulted in a try to them. We did have one last chance to draw level with a break by Bryce Whale but the last pass didn’t stick. It was a disastrous finish for us. The team has to take responsibility for the finish and work hard in the future to close out games.
It was great to see 2 new guys play there first games, Daniel Vi and Johnson Viane. They were both very strong and with a little more work with the team, there will be good things to come. Cameron Matheson was very good and as always Trazan Rihia was a great leader up front. We now play Pittsworth next week and have to really lift our game if we want to win.
