McKellar, Phoenix and Evans 6 Times Champs

An amazing statics to come out of this years 6th consecutive A Grade premiership for the club is that just 3 players have played in all 6 winning grand final teams.

This is testament to not only the clubs ability to re-invent itself each year but to the amazing durability of front rower Kim Phoenix, and backs Gus McKellar and Matt Evans.

In a recent interview with the Toowoomba Chronicle Kim Phoenix said he felt lucky to have played in all 6 GF winning sides:

I’ve played in all six now so I’m a bit lucky.

It’s probably a little bit more of a challenge trying to bring the young guys into how we play and everything, but come the end of the year, we did really well.

I’m very impressed with all of them.

I’d like to keep it going but you never know. You’ve only got to look at Oakey this year, they really grew together and they were a very physical side and everybody tipped them to beat us.

I think they were second from the bottom or they were wooden-spooners last year and then all of a sudden they’re in a grand final. They got a few recruits and kept a lot of their older players and they really know what they’re doing out there.
