Match Reports Vs Pittsworth 18.06.2016

-MATCH REPORTS –

VALLEYS A GRADE. Our boys really put up a great effort against the odds this week playing Pittsworth who sit 2nd on the table. With injuries, suspensions, players unavailable even with a late pull out or two from key positions, the lads on the field put this all behind them and probably put in one of the most spirited performances so far this year . We didn’t start how we wanted and within 7 mins were 12 points down. We made 4 errors which turned the ball over for our first 4 sets and this was the telling difference in the game. Our team is learning week to week what A Grade footy is about and Pittsworth were the team that we expected and played a tight wrestle and tried to dominate the ruck speed. To the credit of our forward pack we didn’t let them roll or dominate those areas. This week there was a genuine effort from everyone which was a pleasing factor. The score line blew out with 3 min left when Pittsworth scored off a huge kick with a knock on in goal. Some stand out performances from Dexter Buchanan who has played 4 games at front row and played every minute and has had a huge contribution to the sides energy. Trent Nicholls played his best game this year with a solid defensive effort and put his body in the collision every time he ran. Trent gained the Man of the Match award and will continue to improve and really be a big asset to Valleys in the future. Josh Birch, Nulla Budden and Dylan Chowan all played big parts in the effort. This weekend we play at home and I’m looking forward to the guys playing the kind of footy that they enjoy.

VALLEYS RESERVE GRADE. Last weekend we went to Pittsworth and lost in a close encounter, with the final score ending up 24 – 20. Full credit to Pittsworth who came at us all day scoring a late try to seal the win. I was proud of our effort with a lot of boys playing out of position and longer minutes than usual due to injury and suspensions. In saying that, that is no excuse for our loss. We had every chance to win, we just let ourselves down at crucial times with little unforced errors. We need to start putting together a complete 70 minutes of good footy instead of playing in patches. We now move onto next week against Warwick where we will need to be better than last week! Thanks again to the under 18 boys for playing up.

VALLEYS UNDER 18 GRADE. Last week we headed out Pittsworth to play the Danes for the President’s cup. As to be expected the game got off to a physical start with both sides completing sets. We managed to finally crack their defensive line and run in two tries before the Danes hit back with one of their own. The grind continued into the second half before we looked comfortable at 22-8 in front. Pittsworth being the good side they are hit back to bring the score line to 22-18 at fulltime. The whole team played well in what was a quality game by both sides. Pat Randall and Wally Peglar took out the man of the match awards while Wally was voted our player’s player. Things don’t get stegglesany easier this week as we host the Warwick Cowboys. The Cowboys comprehensively beat us in round 1 and with numerous players out this week it will be all hands on deck to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

VALLEYS C GRADE. Last Saturday afternoon at Pittsworth we made too many simple errors in going down 20-6. Once again it comes down to getting to training to fix these errors. Special thanks to the guys that made appearances at late notice to help with numbers. Hogs Breath Cafe Man of the Match went to Sam Williams who put in a strong performance in only his second game for the club.
