VALLEYS A GRADE – After a long off season and with only 2 short preseason games we were eager to get into round 1 and play our first 80 minute game. 1st up we had the returning Goondiwindi Boars at home. Graham Parmenter who coached the premiership winning Valley’s 1992 team presented the players jerseys and talked about the history and pride of the people that have worn the jumper before.
With a new look side in 2015 and the TRL competition very even it was important we clicked early as a team. The efforts of the players’ were great as we got off to a good start and maintained the momentum for 80min. We have worked hard on our defense and to keep a talented Gundy side to 10 points is credit to the players’ attitudes. The new players’ added to the squad all impressed and Ryan Stevens and Ben Cook directed the team around well. Josh Duncan, Jock Waters and Luck Ash stood out but everyone did their role on the day. The final score 78 – 10 to us.

Its great to see Gundiwindi back in the TRL and I wish them the best for the season.
This week we look forward to catching up with an old Rooster.

Justin.

VALLEYS RESERVE GRADE – In a frustrating encounter our boys let the best of our chances slip away. We controlled the game for long periods of play and got out to a good lead but sometimes we lacked a bit of direction. Coach JB being away on alternative sport’s duties meant we weren’t able to source his inspiration to motivate our boys to give 110%. We did however show plenty of potential in particular at the end in drawing level on the scoreboard with a sideline conversion to win the match waved away. Thanks to the Goondi boys for a tough encounter. The final score was 24 all.

VALLEYS UNDER 18 GRADE – despite what many other club officials might think, our Under 18 boys were struggling for numbers. We still however have a number of lads away on representative duties and a couple of injuries in key positions. We may struggle for a few weeks with numbers, but this is what drives our club when we can dig deep and still be competitive. Our boys have loads of talent but, we need to keep our heads up when we get behind on the scoreboard and learn not to push too hard and end up not playing as a team. Take nothing away from the Goondi kids, they played well and put us under pressure. To all the boys that played Saturday, heads up always and be prepared mentally and physically before each game. We are commited to getting the best out of you to allow you to be the best that you can be. A special mention to all the Under 16 boys who played up for us. No doubt we will need you all for a few more weeks yet. The final score 14 – 24 to Goondiwindi.
