JOHN McDONALD SPORTS COMPLEX PROVES ITS WORTH

The John McDonald Sports Complex has proven its worth in the preparation and the pre-season of the Western Clydesdales in their return to QCup Competition. Valleys legend John McDonald was once considered the best centre-threequarter in the World in the late 1960’s and it was his monetary transfer to Sydney Club Manly Warringah that secured the grounds in Pillar Street. The Sports Complex, was named after John McDonald in 2022 and is home to the main playing Oval of Toowoomba Valleys RLFC, named after Toowoomba Valleys, Clydesdales and Australian legend Herb Steinohrt and is the fitting venue providing an excellent well established training facility for the Western Clydesdales. The famous Clydesdales name is synonymous with rugby league in our region, and evokes strong feelings of pride and passion in rugby league circles. We are all excited to see how the return of the famous symbol rallies support in and around our community and behind our region. The Western Clydesdales represent south-west Queensland with our catchment area spanning from Gatton in the east to Roma and beyond in the west and from the Queensland/NSW border in the south up to the South Burnett. Our name demonstrates our commitment to representing all of the south-west and draws on the passion associated with the Clydesdales from their proud history of excellence over the past century. Once labelled the best team in the World, the Clydesdales are well supported with their affiliation with the NRL Club, the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs whose focus on development will ensure a secure and prosperous future ahead for the Clydesdales on the field.

Meet the man who’ll be calling the shots this season 👊🏻 Head Coach – Jason Alchin

What is your coaching philosophy?

“Just bash and kick. No, me in a nutshell, its all about the team. If you develop, you become better. I’m big on team and pathways and trying to get the young men to their best ability. If their absolute best is in Hostplus Cup, fantastic. If it’s in the NRL, then I’ll do everything I possibly can to actually get them to that. That’s who I am as a coach”.
