A NIGHT TO REMEMBER….at the “JOHN MCDONALD SPORTS COMPLEX”

Saturday April 9th, a night to remember in the history of the Toowoomba Valleys RLFC after the presentation to John “Cracker” McDonald AM of the naming rights of the Pillar Street grounds. The John McDonald Sports Complex, home to Herb Steinohrt and Mal Jamieson Ovals was made official after a small acknowledgement before kick off of the Valleys Vs Dalby A Grade match. The recognition to John McDonald was overdue and well deserved after years and years of service to Rugby League Administration as Chairman of the Toowoomba Rugby League, the Queensland Rugby League, the Australian Rugby League as well as the International Rugby League Board. But it was John’s playing days that have contributed so greatly to his local Toowoomba Club, Valleys. Sydney Club, Manly Warringah offered Valleys a transfer fee of $14000 for John’s services back in 1969 whereby $9000 of this was used to purchase the grounds at Pillar Street, Middle Ridge. Now worth an estimated $8,000,000 this investment will secure a sound future for the Club for the next 100 years and beyond. Thank you John McDonald AM.
