The Toowoomba Valleys A Grade scored their 4th straight win with a tough and physical 36-12 win over Pittsworth at home.
The 2 points were crucial to us staying in touch with the top 5 and even more important given that we spend the next month on the road against 4 top 5 sides.
After a really tight first half, where we again lapsed twice in defence, we led 16-12 despite defending tough and physically for most of the half. The most satisfying part of the game came in the 2nd half where we acted upon what we said at half time and did not concede a point for the final 40 minutes. Our progression in defensive attitude over the last month is a credit to the players and needs to continue if we are going to win enough games to make the finals. Willie Preston was the pick of the forwards but closely followed by strong performances from Bryce Denman, Jason Sharpe and Tyrone Jowett. In the backs Ryan Stevens was instrumental in once again improving our attack and posting some points. Josh Waters was fantastic returning the ball from fullback and was constantly dangerous in attacking raids and both centre’s Hugh Sedger and Jarrod Dodd were superb in defence and dangerous in attack.
The next month however is the real test for us and will gauge exactly how much we have improved. It is a big ask to play 4 straight games away from home especially when those games are against quality opposition. It starts this weekend against Souths and if we come through this month with some good results it will be a sign of just how much we have improved.
