The Toowoomba Valleys A Grade made it 3 wins in a row with an all round solid performance defeating Highfields away 46-20.
The first half was by far our most patient and smart football of the year and laid a great foundation for the rest of the match. Defensive lapses either side of halftime however are a big concern and something we have to clean up as 2 soft Highfields tries put them right back in the game. The reaction of our boys was fantastic and to their credit we put together some quality football and tries, despite dropping away a fair bit in our ball control.
Jake Capewell scored a hat trick and was tremendous all day across the park in his decisions and support and deservedly picked up the player’s player award. Josh Water’s was always dangerous in attack back at fullback for his first full game of the year and Luke Smith was very good at dummy half running behind an entire forward pack that as a group played its best football of the year. It was also great to see another under 18, in Trazan Rihia make his debut. Traz is a very promising ball playing front rower and showed some great carries and passes as well as being very sound in defence. No doubt as he grows in confidence in the senior grades he will get even better.
Finally a special mention to one of our sponsors, CNW Electrical Supplies who have outfitted our staff, committee and volunteers this year in very professional looking business shirts. Thanks again to Darryl and everyone at CNW. We return back home to take on a very tough Pittsworth team this Sunday, so we hope to see everyone there in support for a crucial match.
Dean.
