The Toowoomba Valleys A Grade put in one of our best performances of the year to beat Gatton 32-16 at Gatton last Sunday. It was a great day for the club going down to Gatton which is such a hard place to win and getting wins in all three grades. Reserve Grade in particular were impressive beating the previously undefeated Gatton side. Our defence was back to the standard we want for most of the game and until 2 late tries in the final 10 minutes we had only conceded the 1 try. In attack our forwards really took the game to the bigger Gatton pack which played a huge hand in getting us on the front foot and allowing some space for our backline. Bryce Denman and Sam Capewell led well from the front and were backed up well by Willie Preston, Jason Sharpe and Alex Antonio. Nulla Budden played his best game in the back row and capped the performance with a great line break and offload for a try. It was also great to see Luke Ash play his first A grade game of the year and judging by his performance he is going to be a very important player for us going forward. Ryan Stevens picked up the player’s player award deservedly with a very mature and controlled game at halfback. Josh Waters crossed for 2 tries and was always dangerous. Luke Smith again worked the house down at hooker and also scored a great try himself. The win was really needed and something we had set ourselves to achieve, but with another away game at Wattles this weekend it will be by far our biggest challenge of the year, to go and compete with the top side of the competition.
