The Toowoomba Valleys A grade put in a great defensive effort in terrible conditions last Saturday night at home to defeat Dalby 20-4.
In only the 2nd game this year affected by wet weather for us it was great to see the side adjust to the conditions and play simple and tough football to get the vital 2 points that keeps our finals hopes alive.
Willie Preston and Jason Sharpe were our best in the middle and both were bruising in defence all night. Ryan Stevens once again ensured we executed our game plan and the patience displayed by the entire side was a great sign that we are maturing. Josh Birch was tremendous for us also in just his 2nd A grade game back after a long term injury, covering Jarrod Dodd’s absence from suspension in the centres before moving to hooker for an extended period in a massive effort. Hayden Edmonds also played his first A grade game of the year and was strong all night under pressure from high balls in the wet and in his running game out of our end. The win puts our destiny back into our own hands now and it has been a massive effort by our young side to fight back into contention for the finals by winning 8 of our last 10 games. The entire club is very proud of their effort and determination to get there. Another must win game and a tough one at Oakey this Saturday so we’ll need all the support we can get from everyone who supports the club.
