The Toowoomba Valleys Roosters A grade lost a hard fought game at Dalby on Saturday night, going down 12-7 after leading for nearly the entire match. It was a loss that everyone took really hard as we played some tough and determined football at probably the hardest away venue in the comp. The fact that the players dug in so hard and were determined to get a result and turn our form around was a real positive however and showed all involved that in no way have we accepted a string of tough losses. Although we were all gutted to lose in the final minutes it was a performance, especially in defence, to be proud of and something we hadn’t produced this year up unitl now. It now seems really clear that we are turning around our slow start to the season.
Ryan Stevens played by far his most mature and influential game as a halfback in A grade to date and it was unfortunate that he wasn’t rewarded for such a great performance with a win. He really guided the side and controlled the game with excellent kicking and smart decisions all day. All over the park there were great defensive performances also, which hopefully has now set the standard of what we are capable of in that area.
We now head back home and have 2 games coming up to finish the round that are all or nothing for us if we wish to have any hope of finishing the year strong and pushing for a finals spot.
Dean.
