A Grade Round 6 Write up Valleys V Souths 21/4/2013

Our Clive Berghofer Land Sales, Fabtech Liners & Covers and Federal Hotel Valleys A-Grade side suffered a close loss to Souths in a quality game where both teams produced some really good football. Credit must go to Souths for a solid and experienced performance in a game that didn’t have much in it. Unfortunately for us we let another one slip that was in our grasp however which is a trend we’ll have to stop pretty quickly. Once again our young side showed improvement from the week before but unless we can start to couple this improvement with some results than we may just let the front runners get a little too far away from us. Dave Murphy, back from the Clydesdales U-18’s was outstanding in only his second A grade match, scoring a double and playing a game well beyond his years and rightly so picked up the players player award. In a real shame we’ve also picked up a lot of injuries to add to the toll from the week before so our depth is really going to be tested. Darryn Schwerin played an outstanding game after being thrown in early at fullback due to an injury to Hayden Mcnichol and proved himself once more as one of the best utilities going around. Tyrone Jowett was once again strong and Maui Poe played his best match since joining us this year in the middle of the park. There is plenty more improvement in us but we’ll have to hope that the comp hasn’t already passed us by this year by the time we reach our potential. 3 tough games lay in front of us to complete the first round and the results there will go a long way towards deciding our season.
