“As preseason goes this was a very big learning curve for me as Head Coach of a local Toowoomba side. In many ways I was challenged by the players’ commitment to training, each other and to the Club. The general consensus and feel out of this was that players had been frustrated in the previous years’ A Grade performances and results on the field, despite winning two premierships in other Grades. Motivation seemed to be our biggest hurdle. Preseason injuries have also impacted on our playing stocks. In the next breath, I feel that the group that has turned up week in week out have cemented the Toowoomba Valley’s Club culture and the ethics of a footy side that the club supporters would be proud of.
These players have been given a great opportunity from the club with the new change rooms, gym and equipment to really put their best foot forward for the upcoming season. The Valleys football staff have worked hard to do their bit to strengthen the TRL competition by recruiting players outside of the district. This is in itself a very time consuming exercise and I thank the efforts of those involved. We have retained some corner stone players this year to add to these new recruits too. With new leadership through Luke Ash I feel that the club is moving forward and with a tireless support crew, look forward to a promising year ahead.
All aside, footy is here, preseason is done and the first game Vs Brothers on the 12th of March is going to be the first test to see where preseason has got us, We have played three trial matches with very promising results. Good luck to all players and staff, and I look forward to the 22 rounds of battle ahead”.
