VALLEYS A GRADE – An important game against Pittsworth on Saturday night with both teams turning up in the right spirit to contest the game. We have concentrated on focusing on things we can control and we were definitely up for the game. Unfortunately we let a few things affect us beyond our control and to Pittsworth’s credit they kept their focus and got the 2 points. Sometimes it’s very difficult to keep focus during a game when things are going against you but I was very proud of our group on Saturday night in difficult circumstances. Tyrone Jowett, Jake Ryals and Ben Cook were outstanding and tried hard all game. We have a strong group and will need plenty of improvement as we take on the benchmark in Wattles at their home this weekend.
VALLEYS RESERVE GRADE – Last Saturday night we showed great club spirit against Pittsworth at home. Down on players we had to ask our lower grades to step up and in true Valleys spirit they did just that. With players already playing a game before and some even two games before it was a massive effort. I couldn’t be more happy with the attitude and heart shown by the 17 players on the night who gave their all for 70 minutes of good footy. Everyone played out of their skin, but man of the match went to under 18 player Bruce Whale who had a massive game for us on both attack and defense. However, we will have to be better than that effort again as we head into a tough run home to the finals taking on all top four sides in coming weeks.
VALLEYS UNDER 18 GRADE – The Junior Roosters made it ten wins in row with victory over the previously undefeated Pittsworth team. In what was always going to be a tough encounter we found ourselves behind early with the Danes jumping out to an 8 point lead. We clawed our way back into the game to go in front 16-12 at the break. Pittsworth showed why they are on top of the table drawing level after halftime. Once we controlled the ball we scored some good tries and ran out winners 28-20. The win gave us a lot of confidence but also a desire to improve. It was hard to single out any players but Jordan Collinson, Malik Brown, Ryan Horton, Mitch Cook and Bryce Whale worked hard all game, freeing up Harry Murphy and Gerome Burns to control things out wide. Man of the Match went to front rower Jordan, with he and Pat Smith Sharing the player’s player award. This week we head out to Clifton to play a Warriors side fresh from a big win themselves.
VALLEYS C GRADE – Last Saturday night was the first game back for our C grade team for three weeks and we needed a good hit out to see where we are at after the break. Down a few of our regulars we were again required to call on a few of the club’s under 18 players. We also welcomed Glen and Jamie to the team for their first games as Valleys players also. We have a core group of players now who are committing themselves well and contributing every week. This has created our foundation and we are performing well in attack and defense. Pittsworth certainly tested us and put up a good fight to the end. Jake Crocker was our best this week in a hard fought victory for us. The winning score being 24-16. Next game is against the competition favourites Millmerrin at Clifton. Let’s see if we can get our full squad on the park and put up a strong show.
Gaz.
