VALLEYS A GRADE – A big home fixture match up against Highfields on our Steggles Charity Nest day was a challenge we were looking forward too. Highfields had only lost 1 game this season and have a few familiar faces to our club returning in different colours. We had prepared well over the past few weeks and our combinations are improving the more we play together. James Crombie lead from the front on his best game for the club while Richo, Cookie and Ryan Stevens are gelling well and giving us plenty of options. Our defensive structures are something we are continually improving on and this set the tone for our game in the 1st half. We were able to keep our line intact and this gave us the energy to put points on the board to go in 18-0 at halftime. At the start of the 2nd half things started going against us but we focused on things we could control and as Highfields drew level we were able to maintain our composure and stick to our roles to get the win. The final score being 26-22. Josh Waters and Joe Henderson were always dangerous with the ball and again Ben Jarvis led the way with his defense. All the players are contributing and we still have a lot left in us. Our depth this season is certainly being tested but we are starting to get players back at the right time of the season. it was very pleasing to win all 3 grades. As a club we were very proud to take a knee for Akers with Cookie and Crombie having played with him, the true spirit of our Rugby League families shown through. Justin.
VALLEYS RESERVE GRADE – Last week we played Highfields at home in what was a must win game for us. Our defence was strong again defending a few sets back to back at different stages of the game, but once again our completion rate wasn’t great in attack, turning over easy possession in our own half allowing Highfields attacking opportunities on our own line. We showed when we hold the ball and Complete our sets, we can play a bit of footy in the oppositions end and come away with points. The final score 18-12 to us. We now move on to play Brothers next week looking to get back to back wins and start building some momentum in the back half of this season. J.B.
VALLEYS UNDER 18 GRADE – Last Sunday we played host to the second placed Highfields Eagles. With both teams missing some players it took nothing away from what was a very physical game. We never played our best football in this game but stuck to our plan and defended our line well. In the end we ran out 42-6 winners. Shannon Lawton collected the player’s player award. He really has improved his game this year. Mitch Cook received the man of the match award after displaying a good work ethic in both defence and attack. Things certainly don’t get any easier this week as we head across town to play Brothers in what will be another big game for our team. Matt.
