VALLEYS A GRADE – An away trip to Goondiwindi is always tough and for our club we thought it would be good to all travel down together and support each other. So 4 grades were up for a 7am bus ride. We were up against a vastly different Gundy team than round 1 with World Cup and Qld cup experience being added. Our depth was again tested but provided opportunities for players to step up, which they did. The game was very physical with some big contact in defense. Gundy got the 1st points before we hit back with 2 quick tries to Hayden Edmonds and Willie Preston to lead 10-6. But again our ball control let us down which hurt us on the scoreboard as we trailed 18-10 at halftime. And again after the start of the 2nd half our ball control let us down, but our defense was improving with players pushing themselves to help out the team. With 7 minutes to go we were trailing 24-10 but our character and belief shone through with quick tries to Willie Preston and Hnaloan Budden then Jake Ryals in the corner with not long left on the clock to level the scores. Ryan Stevens then stepped up from the sideline and remained composed to slot over the match winner. Chris Richardson and Oli Scott both lead from the front and stood out. Credit goes to the Goondiwindi club on hosting a great day of exciting footy. It was also an enjoyable day for our club as the character and spirit were as strong as ever and made the bus trip home pretty special.

Justin.

VALLEYS RESERVE GRADE – Today we made the long bus trip to Goondiwindi. Once again our first half was good both in attack and defence and we went into the break evenly matched. Unfortunately our second half discipline was very poor allowing Goondiwindi good attacking possession which they capitalised on. Penalties on the fourth and fifth tackles as well as back to back penalties just isn’t acceptable. Loosing possession coming out of our own end with poor ball security let us down as well. All in all I was happy with our effort. Keep turning up to training and working hard on these areas and I’m sure results will start to go our way. Thanks to the 18s and C graders for sitting up and to Leon and Blake running the water. Let’s all turn up ready to go again this week boys

VALLEYS UNDER 18 GRADE – The Junior Roosters made the long trek to Gundy to take on a dangerous Boars side. Last time the two teams met the Boars upstaged the Roosters on our own home ground. In a tight first half the boys showed good control and went to the break up 18-6. Another good second half saw the boys put on some nice tries and they kept their opposition to only one try to run out 46-10 winners. It was really hard to single players out this week as the whole team contributed to the win. Gerome continues to impress and he was well supported by Bryce, Mitch, Ryan and Junior. Trent Nichols was voted player’s player after a whole hearted performance in a new position. Man of the Match went to Robbie Storey. Robbie really showed true Valleys character on Sunday. He played C grade, Under 18’s and reserve grade. Things don’t get any easier this week as we take on the second placed Highfields Eagles in what is sure to be a tough encounter.

Matt.

VALLEYS C GRADE – A big challenge for our boys last weekend with so many of our regular players missing. Again we stepped up a gear and performed strongly as a group to put together a good and solid victory. A special thank you to the Under 18 boys again. The day proved to be a great trip away with a few highlights on the bus back to Toowoomba also.
