A Grade vs Oakey match report 24.05.14

It was great to get a win on the board after a bad stretch for our A grade last saturday night with a 34-18 victory at home vs Oakey.
To say it was hard fought would be an understatement but after the month we’ve had we all knew that breaking through for the victory that we needed would not come easy. After a shocking first half where our ball control was non existent Oakey proved that we would really need to fight for the 2 points in the 2nd half by playing tough and really competing hard. With 20mins to go however we finally kicked our attack into gear and started building pressure with probably our most patient and quickest section of attack this year.

It was encouraging to see our defence hold up solidly after doing the same the week before. Oakey’s points were all scored directly off our errrors and to the players’ credit our line held solid most of the night when we were put under pressure. Ryan Stevens played a great hand, especially in the second half with his decisions and kicking game all forcing the players around him in the right direction. Rian Cherry also continued his excellent form at hooker and deservedly picked up another players player award. Chez’s return has proven a real benefit to our A grade side and with more match time and fitness he’s only going to improve. We finish the first round away at Brothers this Sunday and we’ll be looking to continue improving as we have over the last 2 weeks. We are really going to be striving now to get some momentum to take into the second phase of the competition after letting ourselves down in this first round.
