VALLEYS A GRADE – With the stop start TRL season underway we were back home against the Warwick Cowboy’s after another weekend off. We worked hard on areas of our game over the last two weeks and to see the improvement on the field was noticeable. With the late scratching of hooker Chris Richardson, Jake Ryles who earned his way back through the lower grades was a handy replacement and had an enormous game playing 80min, and it was great seeing him back in 1st grade. Josh Birch who had played most of the game in reserves was called onto the bench then played 60min and was also a solid contributor. Again we put in some good patches of footy but against quality opposition you have to play for 80min and we haven’t been able to do that yet. Both our halves are starting to combine better and read each others play more which is an encouraging sign, The more they play together the better they will get. We know we are off the pace at the moment but our challenge is in front of us and we look forward to the task.
Justin.

VALLEYS RESERVE GRADE – Today the boys learnt the value of ball control and match preparation. We came up against a more physical and hungrier Warwick side who made us pay for our mistakes throughout the match. Our completion rate in attack was very poor struggling to get to tackle five on most occasions. i was happy with our efforts in defense however for the most part of the game, but defending our own end for most of the match took its toll late in the second half with Warwick making us pay on the scoreboard. I have no doubt the boys will turn things around next week against Souths. Best on ground for us were Gus, Johnson, Birchy and Bowering in defense, and Sutton and Dylan and Schulzie going forward.
JB.

VALLEYS UNDER 18 GRADE – The Valleys Roosters Under 18’s side made it three wins in a row with a strong second half to defeat a committed Warwick side 46-16. The first half was a tight contest with the Roosters unable to play their best football going in to the half time break 18-16 up. The second half was more polished completing sets and picking up the intensity in defense. Although many try scoring opportunities still went begging the boys won the second half 28-0. Ryan Horton, Jordan Collinson and Junior Chong-Nee provided a solid platform for the rest of the team to play from. Mitch Cook and Nick Ryals were both very strong defensively and Byrce Whale bagged 3 tries in a good individual performance. Byrce was named player’s player and man of the match. This week is another must win for the side as we look to cement our spot within the top 5. We play cross town rival the Souths Tigers in a big day at the Oval. We will be without the services of our Darling Downs Schoolboys players’ and we wish them all the best in the state carnival in coming weeks. Those players are Gerome Burns, Byrce Whale, Junior Chong-Nee and Malik Brown.
Matt.

VALLEYS C GRADE – A very close and rewarding victory for our guys against a much improved Warwick side last Sunday. Ideally we would like to be well in front at the end of a match but to our credit we stayed strong to ourselves and fought right to the end when we scored the winning try with only two minutes remaining. Winning in such a way will only strengthen our will to win as we keep improving as a team every week. The quality of our play is evident and players’ are improving with each game also. The final score was 18-16. Our best on ground were Jake Crocker, Josh Mason, Luke Maroney and Danyon Pidgeon, A special mention to the quality Under 18 players who played with us. A bye for us the next two weekends then Dalby and Oakey to finish the first round.
