VALLEYS A GRADE. A loss to Brothers 48 – 24. More of the same. We need to really get the little things or the 1%’s right week in week out and it comes back to players’ concentration and game experience. Josh birch was awarded our Man of the Match and has been lifting his game from week to week. Dylan Chowan was another solid performer and I thought our forwards really had effort this week. The turn of the round is here and now for the downhill run where I hope we can work hard for each other and turn some results our way.
VALLEYS RESERVE GRADE. Last weekend we played Brothers at home, in what was an error filled game. We just did enough to come away with the 2 points with a 28 – 16 scoreline. We need to be better with our ball control and discipline coming out of our own end, we made far too many unforced errors and need to fix that if we want to compete with the top sides in the competition. Our defensive effort was there but again needs to be better moving forward. Keeping Brothers to 16 points with 12 men for the majority of the game wasn’t a bad effort. Plenty of improvement needed moving forward. Best for us was lachlan Markham.
VALLEYS UNDER 18 GRADE. The Junior Roosters played a very competitive Brothers side determined to make an impact this season. It was very pleasing to come away with a solid 30 – 12 victory. Out wide Percy and Wally had strong games and in the middle Peter, Bryce and Pat were all very strong. Most pleasing though was the side’s attitude in defence, once again holding our opposition to a low score. This week we face Pittsworth to decide the 2016 Under 18 President’s cup winner. It will surely be a quality game of football.
VALLEYS C GRADE. On a cold windy day last week, the game against Brothers was definitely the one that got away. Our own ill discipline while we had the ball ultimately cost us the game. With an 18-4 lead we should have put the game to bed but it wasn’t to be. The final score 26 – 18 to Brothers.
Thanks to the guys that showed up and put in the effort, it’s a shame some of our mates don’t show the same commitment. A better effort from all is needed to succeed and be where we want to be at season’s end.
