Steggles Chickens, Construction Siteworks and Thiess Construction Valleys U-18’s v Brothers at Herb Steinohrt Oval, 15th June, 2013

On a cold Saturday night, our Valleys Steggles Chickens, Construction Siteworks and Thiess Construction Valleys U-18’s played Brothers in a tight game. The score didn’t really reflect the game as the Valleys boys were the better team for 75% of the game. In the first half we looked solid in defence and fluent in attack. Lawrence Poe, Mason Trappe and Hnaloan Budden had big first halves and despite being down a man, due to ill-discipline, we were up on the score board. The start of the second half was good how ever the intercept and then charge down tries from Brothers didn’t go to plan,  we remained on top and confident. It was the last 15 min that hurt us. Brothers stood tall as we lost our discipline and gave away penalty after penalty and then gave the lead to them. With our heads down, and our attitude poor the game slipped away in the last 5 mins. It wasn’t from lack of effort, the majority of boys gave everything. It was more about a bit of luck, and towards the end we didn’t have the right attitude to make our own luck. This weekend is massive for us, we need a win to get ourselves up and running heading towards to finals. We are nearly at the point where everything is a must win. Hopefully the boys can stand tall.
