match report a grade preliminary final vs souths 25/08/13

The Clive Berghofer Land Sales, Fabtech Liners & Covers and Federal Hotel Valleys A Grade secured a spot in the Grand Final with a comfortable 33-0 win over Souths and coupled with our victory in the under 18’s that makes 8 straight seasons where we have had 2 Grades in a Grand Final as a club. Although we showed great desperation at times to keep Souths scoreless with several scrambling efforts to hold them up over the line, overall we were pretty dissappointed with our attitude in defence at other parts of the field. This is an area we will need to clean up if we wish to compete with Gatton. Ben Jarvis was outstanding, especially in defence and picked up the players player award. Tyrone Jowett and Luke Smith were also great in the middle of the park, whilst Josh Waters and Brogan and Jay Melrose were terrific at the back and out wide. Huey Sedger was also terrific and continued his development as a great young centre, picking up a try and saving another with one of the best one on one efforts to hold a player up you will see. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our playing group who have showed tremendous fight and character to get us into this Grand Final from a fifth placed play off. It is an incredible feat and after everything that happened in the club over the last off season and the amount of new and young players that have stepped up, this group has set an example and a culture at Valleys that i’m sure will be a lasting legacy. Thankyou boys, we are all tremendously proud of you and we’ll be doing everything we can as a club to ensure we get over the line one more time for what would be an unforgettable Grand Final win.
