Clive Berghofer Land Sales, Fabtech Liners & Covers and Federal Hotel Valleys A-Grade v Pittsworth , 6th April, 2013
Our Clive Berghofer Land Sales, Fabtech Liners & Covers and Federal Hotel Valleys A-Grade lost in a heartbreaking fashion at Pittsworth, conceding a late try to go down 24 – 18. To Pittsworth’s credit they played a tough and simple game and kept us under constant pressure and defending our try line most of the night. It was promising to see our defence stand up again, especially considering the amount of it we had to get through. To only concede 4 tries after a night where we had to tackle so much was a credit to the boys’ attitude but ultimately it was very disappointing to lose 2 points in a 4 try a piece contest.
There were plenty of positives in our attack too and it was encouraging to see the things we have been working on coming to fruition. Our halves Ryan Stevens and Darren Schwerin put on some great balls for their outside men and the addition of Gus McKellar back into the fold gave a different dimension also to our attack. It’s great to see Gus back on the field for Valleys and with the experience he brings it is a great opportunity for our young side to learn at training and on the field from his attitude and competitive nature.
Blake Edwards was once again strong on our fringes where he picked up another try and looks set for a great year. In the middle, Sam Capewell was also strong, especially on the defensive end. It has been a pleasure to see so far this year the likes of Sam, Blake and Cam McKellar stepping up their roles in the side and taking on the added responsibility of being leaders in the group. With a young side our core of more seasoned players, albeit still young themselves, are really crucial to us this year and into the future. We now sit in a position after 4 games where we need to string some wins together however and the task doesn’t get any easier as we travel out to Oakey next week. It’s a challenge we’re looking forward to and we’ll go out there determined to get the 2 points.
