It is with great pleasure that I give you an update as the Toowoomba Valley’s Roosters Head Coach for season 2015.
In a coaching capacity I’m very happy to have Matthew Budden, Russell Bailey, Ned Murphy, Josh Barrett, Matthew Shulze, Chris Whale and Robert(stinger) Fenwick all on board. Also, Ben and Shane Walker Coaches of Ipswich Jets Qcup, and Development officer Mark Tookey will be joining us throughout the season. I Believe with the people we have in place our players have the best possible pathway for development.
Planning for season 2015 has seen a committed process by a number of people behind the scenes as we search to provide the best environment for our players and the club to develop.
Firstly our aim was about player retention and looking after the guys that we had and making sure the successful Under 16’s who are joining the senior club knew of how important we view them. From last season’s 1st team our losses are Sam Capewell to the Ipswich Jets, Jarred Dodd to Broncos U20s, Hugh Sedger to Wynnum Manly Segulls and Bryce Denman to Villafrench in France. They are big losses but are trying to further their carriers and they will always be apart of the Rooster Family.
Secondly was about recruitment in specific areas we thought would strengthen the club. Former NRL stars Chris Walker and Matt Peterson are very experienced players and they are very keen to pass on advice. I have been very impressed by their excitement at joining the Roosters. Both players will play around work commitments and will certainly make the club a better place. Former Valleys Under 18 player Ben Cook has also rejoined after a successful stint with the Redcliffe Dolphins in colts and fogs. We also have had a few surprises turn up so stay tuned and who knows what they could achieve in the Red & Black?
On the 1st of November we held a Cricket Day at Valleys which saw a good turn out. After discussions with the senior players the group wanted to start training early so we decided that from Wednesday November 12th we would start training once a week leading up to Xmas. From the 1st night I have been extremely happy with the commitment, eagerness and effort the players have put in with several players impressing already. To see the group turn up after a hard days work and put in at training shows character and spirit which helps lay the foundations of our club!
We understand there is plenty of hard work to go but to continually improve we are prepared to do whatever it takes!
I wish everyone a great Xmas and happy New Year.
Cheers Justin Murphy
