VALLEYS A GRADE. Last week we played a well directed Souths team yet to be beaten so far this season and a team that will take a lot to be beaten. We once again let ourselves down with numerous unforced errors and poor options throughout the match. We continue to search for our best combinations and look forward to seeing good results on the field when we do. Our boys came from the field rueing missed opportunities that may have seen the score line much closer. We are a very young side and continue to strive for internal growth within this group. Confidence is the key for us. Our best on ground last week was again Hnaloan Budden who continues to impress. We now look forward to the coming week and another home fixture match against Goondiwindi.
VALLEYS RESERVE GRADE. It was a solid effort from the Valleys reserve grade to come away with the 2 points on Saturday night against a nuggetty Souths team. After a slow start highlighted by a lack of urgency in getting on loose ball, we clicked into gear to run away with the game in the second half. We need to keep the intensity we showed in the second half flowing into another important game this weekend before the bye round for us.
Man of the match went to skipper Matt Kelly who bagged a double. He was well supported by Harley Gilliland and Benny Atkins who patrolled the middle of the field well all game. Keep up the great work boys. The final score 42–20 to us.
VALLEYS UNDER 18 GRADE. The junior Roosters returned to the winners circle with a 46-10 win over cross town rivals Souths. The forwards really laid a nice platform and dominated the middle of the field so that the team could put together some nice tries. However, we really let ourselves down at the start of the second half with plenty of dropped ball and incomplete sets. We managed to recover though and finished the half strongly. Peter Doyle was voted man of the match and player’s player in another strong display in the middle of the field. Shannon made the transition to fullback with ease and has really shown great improvement in his running game. Wally has also settled well into his new role in the halves and is improving each week. Big thanks to Rocket and Buddy from the under 16’s who helped us out on the day. This week we host the boys from Gundy who beat us on our home ground last year.
VALLEYS C GRADE. Hard afternoon at the office against a well drilled Souths side. We need to put in a better effort for each other in getting to training and working together as a side. Man of the match went to Brok Whale and it was good to see a few older roosters back on the park. The final score 52-6 to Souths.
