Our A grade side went down to the undefeated Wattles on Sunday, who showed us why they are the competition favourites at this stage of the season.
Going in to halftime down only 8-6 after a tight first half we had shown plenty of signs of improvement especially in our defence. Wattles boast some great attacking weapons in Matt Duggan, Jackson Green and Joel Koina and unfortunatley after not completing our first 5 sets of the 2nd half it was these 3 who did plenty of damage to us and blew the game out. These lapses, where our ball control and defence go out the window, are costing us dearly and against such a good side there just isn’t any room for one error let alone five in a row. The final score 16-36.
There were positives and improvements in lots of areas, mainly in the first half and towards the end of the game where we started to play some football and string some sets together but it was way too late by then. The bottom line is that we’re going to have to get alot better in our execution and completions and string 80 minutes of decent footy together if we’re going to compete. Sam Capewell and Tyrone Jowett were fantastic in the forwards and worked tirelessly all day. It was also great to see Jarrod Dodd return to the club and make his A grade debut which he capped with a solo try and some great defence out wide. Nulla Budden also played his strongest game for the year in another positive sign. We face Warwick this Saturday night at home and after a bad patch it is already a must win game for us.
